The SWEET Petition
It’s Time to Take Added Sugar Out of Our Food
To: Food & Beverage Manufacturers, Executives, Product Managers, and Regulators
From: Consumers Who Care About Health, Wellbeing and Happiness
Sugar contributes to over 3,000,000+ deaths annually in the United States alone and negatively impacts virtually everyone.
For over 100 years, the food industry has prioritized the convenience, shelf life, affordability and addictiveness of sugar.
Despite the high cost of the consequences of sugar consumption. It was allegedly essential to help feed a growing world quickly and efficiently.
In the rush to feed the masses, health and science were too often sidelined. Added sugar became a staple ingredient — not because it was good for us, but because it was cheap, addictive, and easy to scale.
That era is over.
We now have over 50 years of clear scientific evidence showing that excessive sugar consumption contributes to heart disease, type 2 diabetes, liver damage, obesity, and cognitive decline.
We believe it’s time to evolve again — this time with health and happiness for all as top priorities.
We’re calling for:
1. The phased removal of added sugar in everyday food and beverage products.
2. Greater investment in health-forward, science-backed alternatives.
3. Transparent labeling that puts real choice in the hands of consumers.
This isn’t an attack. It’s an invitation.
We believe the food industry and regulators have the power to lead a new wave of innovation — one that fuels energy, longevity, happiness and real well-being.
Let’s shift the definition of “sweet” — from something cheap and harmful to something smart, sustainable, healthy, and delicious.
We refuse to pass down a world where sugar addiction is normal and health is the exception. It’s time to make sweet safe again.
Signed,
A growing community of consumers, creators, nutritionists, parents, and sweet rebels.
